About Mark

Mark Broadbent is a freelance cinematographer and photographer based in Brisbane, Australia.

Mark’s passion for photography and cinematography all began when at the ripe old age of 7 he received his first camera - a blue Fisher Price 110 film camera. It was love at first sight and whilst his toys may have gotten more sophisticated over the years, Mark’s passion for photography hasn’t waned. Mark’s discovery of cinematography at 15 when he started studying Film and Television at high school set him onto the path he is on today; combining his loves for both photography and cinematography into a successful career.

Mark is a full member of the ACS (Australian Cinematography Society) and has been working as a freelance cinematographer since completing his Bachelor of Screen Production at Griffith University/QCA in 1999.

Mark has worked with a variety of media including:

  • Digital cinema
  • Film
  • Broadcast
  • HD-SLR

Mark is an AIPP accredited professional photographer and alongside his cinematography work, he operates as a freelance photographer specialising in timelapse and stills of surf, travel and people as well as photography for corporate, commercial and editorial content.

He has successfully combined photography with cinematography doing various Behind The Scenes stills for several film and television projects including the Australian feature film "Crooked Business" and the US television pilot "Conspiracy Hunters".
Many of Mark's images are available to purchase as prints or fine art prints with a large number also being available to license as stock.

Mark's keen understanding of timelapse projects and their associated requirements enables him to follow a timelapse sequence from the conception stage through to delivery. Mark has experience with a range of timelapse projects of varying complexity and can cater for requirements such as long-term camera mounting and remote monitoring as well as complex camera moves during the timelapse sequence. Previews of the timelapse can be provided at various stages throughout the project before the final delivery of the timelapse files in either full resolution RAW format or in a particular data video file format for post-production.

Mark has worked on a large number of projects across the entire spectrum of cinematography and photography including:

  • feature films
  • short films
  • documentaries
  • television commercials
  • music videos

  • surf photography (film and photo)
